Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Source: Ellen

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
3/4 tsp salt (1 tsp if using unsalted butter)
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
2 cups chocolate chips
2 cups regular rolled oats (not quick)
Optional 1 cup dried fruit

Cream the butter, sugar and vanilla. Add the eggs and beat well.

Stir the flour, salt, cinnamon, and baking soda together, then stir this into the butter mixture. Mix until well blended.

Add the oatmeal, chocolate chips, and optional dried fruit.

Bake for 8-10 minutes at 375°. The cookies will still look very soft and moist on top, but they will have started turning a shiny pale brown around the edges.

Note: March 2018: I used 9 ounces of chocolate chips and about a cup of dried cherries. I got 44 cookies, 33 grams each.
