Orange Bowknots

1 1/4 cups scalded milk
1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 package active dry yeast
2 eggs
1/4 cup orange juice
2 tbsp grated orange peel
5 cups flour

Frosting
Cream cheese, optional
2 tbsp orange juice
1 tsp grated orange rind
1 cup powdered sugar

Combine milk, butter, sugar, and salt. Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast. Add eggs, orange juice, and orange peel; beat thoroughly. Cover and let stand 10 minutes.

Beat in flour. Knead lightly and place in a greased bowl. Let rise until double. Punch down.

Roll out 1/2″ thick. Cut in 10″ strips, each 1/2″ wide. Tie in a knot and place on baking sheets. Cover and let rise.

Bake at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes. Serve with orange frosting.
